Job Title: Sr. Electronics Engineer

 

Location: Kansas City, MO (Kansas City)

 

Job Description: The Senior Electronics Engineer provides design expertise and leadership on electronic drives and controls, research and development activities, and new product specification, development, documentation, production planning, tooling and sales.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Design, analyze, develop, simulate, test and document all aspects of electronic hardware and software.
  • Develop specifications, analyses, calculations, diagrams/drawings, and procedures to support the application of electronics for QM Power technologies.
  • Capture customer requirements and translate into electrical design specifications and software specifications and schedules.
  • Embrace and support new and existing product designs from “cradle to grave”.
  • Design, modify, develop, write and implement embedded, real time code for motor drives and controls.
  • Proficiency in UL and IEC agency requirements and approval procedures.
  • Proficiency in developing simulation models in SPICE or similar programs
  • Responsible for accuracy of own work, meeting schedules, and seeking assistance to resolve complex or controversial matters.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents and to present ideas, data, etc. in a clear, concise, and logical format.
  • Participates as team member in product development projects while meeting schedule, cost and product performance goals.
  • Evaluates alternative design solutions to meet product requirements factoring in performance, cost and schedule.
  • Direct and administrate internal and external research and development activities including Government research contracts as a primary point of contact (Principal Investigator) to the DOE, DOD, NASA, NSF and other agencies.
  • Patent control algorithms and drive advantages.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

 

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with proven design experience in electric motors, generators and/or actuators.
  • 5-10+ years experience in electrical hardware and software design of real time embedded systems preferred.
  • Extensive communication hardware layer development experience.
  • Disciplined development process experience and commitment to product quality.
  • Ability to write requirements, specifications, test plans/reports
  • Innovative problem solver willing to search for creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Patent Experience Preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Proven experience applying cost optimization to power electronics design.
  • PM, SRM and AC Motor drives design experience is strongly preferred.
  • High volume production application experience is plus.
Job Title: Field Engineer/Technical Sales

Job Description: The Field Engineer/Technical Sales provides technical, sales and installation support for QM Power products.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Installation, trouble shooting and testing of refrigeration and HVAC fan motor products
  • Provide sales support for QM Power’s products
  • Responsible for communicating technical information to engineers, contractors and Government agencies
  • Travel to on-site locations for sales, installation and testing of products
  • Responsible for accuracy of own work, meeting schedules and seeking assistance to resolve customer inquiries and/or complaints

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

 

  • 10+ years of experience in installation, testing and support of HVAC and refrigeration fan motor equipment
  • Superior customer service skills with a professional attitude
  • Ability to serve as project lead for high profile project with Government agency preferred
  • B.S. degree in a related field preferred
  • Licensed electrician preferred
  • Consistently willing to train to maintain industry knowledge and stay current with new products and processes
  • Excellent people skills, including training and development, and evaluating customers’ needs
  • Proficient with computers, internet and web based programs (MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
Job Title: Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

 

Location: Kansas City, MO (Kansas City)

 

Job Description: The Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer reports to the Product Engineering Manager. Expected to contribute independently at a high level with minimal supervision to complete specific assignments and reach quarterly and annual product line technical goals. Will collaborate with Business Development, Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, QC, and Logistics teams in developing and/or testing hardware, software and processes to meet the device functionality required for success in QM Power’s markets. Provides technical support, ranging from addressing direct inquiries to direct field support of initial deployment of new technology and hands-on training for existing technology solutions.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • New product development including initial drafting of functional requirement specifications Hands-on prototype creation, testing and reporting
  • Provide technical support to other functional teams (especially sales and project engineering)
  • Provide and receive cross-training to build a good knowledge base across the organization, and shorten the candidate’s learning curve on product or technology specific subject matter
  • Abide by corporate policies, product line specifications, and industry standards for sound engineering, quality, and documentation practices

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering
  • Some industrial or research experience related to air flow measurement applications
  • Proficient in use of CAD packages and able to perform basic design and drafting work
  • Able to make independent progress with significant technical leeway in determining methods and procedures towards reaching goals under minimal supervision
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with customers, colleagues, industry partners, and sub-suppliers
  • Capable of gathering and analyzing the statistics of large sets of experimental data
  • Proficient in generating technical reports and journal-quality publications to document results of tests, simulations, field case studies, and hardware/software troubleshooting tasks.
  • Sound and thorough understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena
  • Availability to travel (10-15% of time) to supplier’s and/or customer’s location to troubleshoot processes and/or equipment

 

Preferred

 

  • Graduate Course-work and/or research/industrial experience in air flow, beyond basic familiarity with the subject
  • Solid basis in the selection and use of industrial and laboratory instrumentation and working knowledge of industrial communications protocols
  • Machine shop and/or fabrication shop experience
  • Experience with FEA packages
  • Prototype fabrication, assembly, testing and reporting
  • Capable of delivering effective technical presentations and training courses on core product-line technology
  • Some industrial or research experience related to air flow applications, HVAC and refrigeration industry related fan applications preferred.
  • Basic understanding or HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Manufacturing or fabricating (building equipment) experience - HVACR equipment preferred
  • Design for manufacture skills
