QM Power was awarded a $500,000 SBIR Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation for “Advanced Portable Power Generators”. While several companies are competing to improve the chemistry, life and safety of existing and prospective rechargeable battery technologies, there are few technology efforts focused on improving the devices responsible for recharging the batteries, particularly in situations where the electric grid is not available as the power source. QM Power, with its development partner Dell Engineering Services, will evaluate a new low cost/high efficiency generator solution called Q-Gen™ Portable for use in recharging portable consumer electronic devices (laptops, phones, PDAs, etc). The Q-Gen™ Portable will recharge handheld electronic devices without requiring the grid or a fuel source.
